Parents of young boys face a lot of choices in after-school activities. Boys want to have fun, while parents want them to learn positive values and skills that will last a lifetime. If your boy is about to enter first through fifth grade, Cub Scouting may be exactly what you are both looking for. Generations of American men have participated in and benefited from Cub Scouting, and the experience of serving millions of participants over almost a century has enabled us to make Cub Scouting one of the most exciting and rewarding programs available to your family.

Prerequisites

The Cub Scout age program is for K through 5th graders – Lions, Tiger cubs, Wolf scouts, Bear scouts, and Webelos. The Bobcat rank is the first rank earned by Cub Scouts, no matter which grade they begin scouting. After earning the Bobcat rank, he then begins earning the rank of his grade. After completing Bear scout requirements, scouts begin their Webelos program.

Meetings

Den Meetings

When you join, you will meet three times a month with your den, which consists of 5-8 boys usually of the same grade level. The den structure allows boys to build relationships with leaders and other boys. The den provides opportunities for activities that would be difficult with a large group, such as: crafts, games, skits, songs, storytelling, puzzle, ceremonies. The den also provides leadership opportunities for the boys.

Pack Meetings

Then Pack 229, the collection of dens, will meet once a month usually on the last Tuesday of the month. The monthly pack meeting brings together boys from every den, their leaders, and their families, to participate in a large-scale event that serves as a showcase for everything the boys have learned and done in their individual den meetings. The pack meeting gives the boys a larger experience beyond their own den, and helps them to connect their individual activities to the entire Cub Scouting program. Our Pack meeting are almost always held in the cafeteria of Harper Elementary School.
